usb driver incompatibility - update needed

I am running several external SSD (USB)drives with my mid 2013 13'' MBA without problems but for one exception.

Samsung SSD T1, SanDIsk Extreme 500 and 900 all are formatted with Tuxera NTFS and run fine both under MacOS 10.11.4 and bootcamp/win 7-64. Samsung SSD T3 runs fine under MacOS and under win 7-64 installed on a PC, but crashes to bluescreen under bootcamp/win7-64.

I have repaired/reinstalled the bootcamp drivers - this does not help.

Also I note, if from the win7-64 machine management I update the USB drivers at some point I also get a blue screen.

Clearly, the SSD is all ok, but the bootcamp driver(s) are not up-to-date. Samsung T1 and SanDisk Extreme 500 are USB3, Samsung SSD T3 is USB 3.1, and SanDisk Extreme 900 is USB C.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

may be, but there ARE a number of drivers visible under win7 in connection with USB devices, the mass storage is just one out of several. You need, for example, the Intel exTensible host controller in order to get anywhere near the full performance of those external SSD drives.

Finally, I did NOT dream up the blue screen with my MBA/bootcamp/win7-64. And I very well SAW the "standard" PC/win7-64 implementing a driver upon plugging in the T3.

It's just as stated before: bootcamp does not provide newer software for win7-64, as clear from the fact that the package originates from 2014.

In addition to my original post - the issue has been solved. Upon plugging the SSD into the (very slow, since USB2) cinema display usb hub, first a driver error was reported followed by installation of another driver.

Thereafter, the SSD ran fine - not only from the cinema display hub but also directly from the MBA USB3 connectors.

So this is a workaround to keep in mind...
